About 88 percent of educational institutions in Chattogram’s Satkania upazila will remain closed for at least one more week following severe flooding in the region, said education officials.
According to the information provided by the Satkania Upazila Education Office, there are 270 educational institutions in Satkania including 149 primary schools, 82 high schools, 33 madrasas, and six colleges.
Teaching has started in 34 educational institutions, including 20 primary schools, in the municipal area of the upazila, it said.
Golam Mahbub, primary education officer of Satkania, told The Daily Star, “Most of the schools in the area still don’t have the environment to conduct educational activities. Cleaning activities began yesterday, and we hope that 80% of the schools will be ready within the next two days and all schools within the next week.”
The higher secondary educational institutions in the area were also facing the same situation.
Only 14 higher secondary institutions have opened so far.
